Reduce & Re-use

Flat Pack / Fold out Tiny House on a box trailer. Like a hybrid Cupboard House / Tiny House / Alejandro Aravena incremental type thing.
I saw all the Tiny Houses for sale at the expo on the weekend and they were mostly all plasterboard and plastic (not all of them) and though I couldn't see the prices I'm sure they were expensive. Both of which seem to be against what building or buying a Tiny House is all about.
I thought maybe I can design something on a 8x5 foot trailer that has all the important parts - the kitchen, bathroom and bed - which you then fold out floors for some living space that can be built on when you get it wherever you're going.
There'd probably be cooler designs out there, but this is something low tech I think I could do. All the weight would be on the bottom so it wouldn't tip over right? 700kg I think they can carry.

Moved the house for the weekend for a little Tiny House Open day. Did a clean and some styling and it felt like a proper house.

Moved the Tiny house for a little open day tomorrow. Come and have a look. Also see where the next Tiny House course is going to run in July and maybe itl motivate you to sign up.
And then also to purchase the one you build??
I bought this after the last course at auction for $22000 as I was the inly bidder, which after doing some calcs we realised wasn't paying for any labour just materials. It might start at a touch more this year but still there's a high chance you could get one cheap if you wanted.
Then you could do what I've been doing this year and fit out the inside. Which has been great. If you've got a driveway or some space on the street.

Don't think I've done dovetails since high school!! The good thing about working with old materials is that you can drill holes in the wrong spot or do bad joints but it all adds to the charm.
Because I had to remove the drawer for the fridge I cut it down to fit its new little square hole.

Chopped up a normal sized door I found, did a bit of woodworking and pieced it back together to make these sliding doors on the cabinet above the bench. Thought the slatted fronts match the weather boardy cladding inside a bit.

Getting into the technical stuff that takes me a bit to understand. Wiring a 2 way light with nice Bakelite switches. Made a little light shade though but that also that needs a bit of work.

Had HEAPS of people come to visit today, lots of compliments, including a guy who said it was the most beautiful thing hed seen in his life. No one had seen the sign though.

Exciting day today put in the sink and did some tiling. My first attempt at cutting and bending a sink I found on the street to make it fit didn't end too well. The second sink (that I got for $1) however. There's also a pic of a hanging light I put up along with the first bit of wiring.

Connecting gaps between furniture with shelving and fold out table.
Lots of scrapy bits of wood that will look better once sanded and finished. Makerspace closed down so I'm checking dimensions in the house, take the bits home to cut on my driveway them putting them together at the house.

Reducing the scope of your project will have ongoing economic and environmental benefits. This can be done without compromise, as through good design quite often minor but considered amendments can make a significant difference in a home’s function.
AM Designs has experience working with and sourcing materials from various recycling centres around Sydney. The process of searching and finding what is available also facilitates results that are unplanned and entirely unique. Reused materials can save you money, will reduce the strain on resources and your carbon footprint.
